  • WILDCATS NAMED GHSF DAILY TEAM OF THE WEEK
    Posted August 21, 2025

A football team poses for a photo on a green field, holding a plaque.Congratulations to our Apalachee High School football players and coaches! Out of 400 high school football teams in the state of Georgia, our Wildcats have been named Georgia High School Football (GHSF) Daily's state Team of the Week.

The recognition comes after the Aug. 16th 29-9 win against Chattahoochee - the Wildcats' first victory since 2021. The historical significance of the game is just one of the many reasons a team earns the title.

Jeff Gable with GHSF Daily told the team before Thursday's practice, "You snapped that ugly losing streak. 29 games. That's done with - that's gone. It's time for a new streak to get started."

The team responded with a positive, "Yes, sir."

Gable continued, "It was also a complete team victory. We know what you had to go through as a school and a community last school year and this is a way to proclaim that you guys are back."

AHS Head Football Coach Kevin Saunders has shared that he is proud of the coaching staff, players, students, administrators, and families. After the award presentation and some photos, he thanked GHSF Daily and the award sponsors, BSN Sports and Siemens, and then got back to business.

    "Now, let's go practice."
